Blade Operator

Summary/Objective 
The Blade Operator is responsible for operating heavy construction equipment with knowledge of hazards and safety precautions and awareness and of cut/fill operations for a variety of projects.

Essential Functions
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. Drives truck and equipment to work site.
2. Drives snow removal equipment consisting of truck equipped with adjustable snow plow.
3. Blades gravel roads; manually patches blacktop roads, hauls and spreads gravel, sand and stone.
4. Performance of routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or repairs to supervision is required daily.
5. Understand controls and functions of the blade
6. Achieve acceptable rough and finish grade in all types of soils and conditions.
7. Ability to read and understand stake grades and plans.
8. Ability to effectively communicate to ground personnel and supervision.

1. Must be able to accurately and appropriately perform driving duties, assess weather conditions, and perform maintenance of roads. Understand and efficiently perform proper gravel blading and snow plowing techniques.

Work Environment
Environmental conditions include exposure to weather such as hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather. Also, exposure to some vibration while truck driving when the blade is down to plow snow or in gravel blading.

Physical Demands
On a continuous basis (100% of the time) must be able to have a field of vision by observing an area that can be seen up and down or right or left when the eyes are fixed on a given point during driving in the truck.
On a seasonal basis, must be able to work extended hours (up to 16 hours/day) over and above the normal work day as needed.
On a continuous basis (100% of the time) must be able to have clarity of vision at 20ft or more in performing all aspects of the job.
On a frequent basis (80% of the time) must be able to have a sense of feel in order or perceive attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by means of touch in all functions of the job.
On a frequent basis (80% of the time) must be able to perform handling in utilizing control levels on the truck and use of tools.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work.

Required Education and Experience

1. 2+ years’ experience in the construction or oil/gas industry operating a Finish Blade.
2. Must have experience in earth-moving and heavy construction with knowledge of cut/fill operations from a variety of projects
3. Valid CDL License
